How? This technology is known as Tissue Nanotransfection (TNT). It could potentially save lives of car crash victims and heal wounded soldiers on site.
The shape of a silicon chip-sized coin. Simply by injecting the genetic code into the skin cells, it will turn that skin cell into another cell type needed to treat the diseased condition.

In tests conducted in the laboratory, a single touch of TNT can actually repair an injured rat's leg for three weeks by converting skin cells into vascular cells.
Chandan Sen, director of the Center for Regenerative and Cell-Based Therapy, added that the technology does not only work on skin cells. But it can restore all types of networks.
For example, technology restores brain function in mice that have a stroke by growing brain cells on their skin.
If successful, then this technology is a breakthrough. Because, this is the first cell reprogrammed in the living body.

Another advantage, Sen said, no side effects are known for TNT and its treatment is less than a second.
"Not to mention, this technology does not require a laboratory or hospital and can actually be executed in the field."
Currently, Sen is waiting for FDA approval (Food and Drug Administration) to be tested on humans this year.
